Endless sandy beaches, meter-high palm trees and romantic beach huts, where you can relax while enjoying the view of the sea. Goa, and especially the south, has really stolen my heart and every time I am there, I discover new, beautiful beaches. Today I share my 3 favorite beaches in Goa with you.
The first time I went to Goa, I stayed at Palolem Beach. This beach in the south of Goa is incredibly beautiful and surrounded by thousands of palm trees. On the beach you will find countless colored beach huts where you can spend the night and dozens of restaurants where you can enjoy delicious dishes, while the sun slowly sinks behind the sea.
When I stayed on Palolem Beach, it was the end of May. The season had already ended, which meant that a lot of restaurants and accommodations were closed. But that also meant that it was very quiet and that we had almost the entire beach to ourselves. The second time I visited Palolem was during the Christmas holidays, the busiest time of the year, and the beach was full of tourists.
Still, I thought Palolem Beach was just as beautiful as in May, and the liveliness that was there now gave the beach a cozy atmosphere. And the beach might be fairly busy; it was absolutely not a Costa Brava where everyone lies and has to fight for a lounger.
If you are mainly looking for peace and quiet, I would not stay at Palolem during the high season - from October to March, but when you feel like having fun on the beach, nice bars and the occasional party, Palolem is highly recommended. In the low season, Palolem is the perfect place to relax. If you want a bit more bustle and liveliness, you better go to the north of Goa.
If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Palolem in high season, you can go to the quieter neighboring beaches of Agonda and Patnem. Agonda is a few kilometers above Palolem, while Patnem is immediately below it. When I stayed at Palolem Beach I visited both beaches and Patnem in particular immediately appealed to me. Although the relaxed Agonda is certainly not a wrong choice. You can also book private taxi from taxi service in udaipur.
When we wanted to go to Goa for Christmas last-minute , we initially looked at Palolem again, but because almost all accommodations were fully booked and we mainly needed a rest, we decided to go to Patnem. And really, it was even nicer than I could have imagined.
Patnem is a quiet beach with attractive beach huts, good restaurants and a relaxed hippie vibe . Many people come to Patnem for yoga retreats, creating a very relaxed atmosphere. But there are also countless bars and restaurants on the beach where you can go for some bustle and socializing. And otherwise you can always join one of the campfires and sing along with the local band.
Almost all restaurants and accommodation are closed during the low season, but in the high season Patnem is really the ideal place for those seeking tranquility and yoga lovers. And when you feel like a bit of bustle, you can reach Palolem Beach within 5 minutes by scooter.
Cola Beach is a quiet and secluded beach where only the real adventurers come - before you reach the beach, you have to drive two kilometers along a bumpy dirt road and then you have to climb down a steep staircase. But it is definitely worth it, because Cola Beach is enchantingly beautiful.
When you arrive at the beach, you will immediately find a beautiful green lagoon on your right, surrounded by hundreds of palm trees. On the rest of the beach you will find a number of rocks and also a lot of emptiness. There are only a handful of accommodations on Cola Beach and even during the busiest periods of the year, the beach is an oasis of tranquility.
Cola Beach is really a hidden gem, but I would only spend the night there if you want to do nothing but relax for a few days. If you are looking for a bit more fun or also want to go out for a few days, I would rather spend the night at Palolem, Agonda or Patnem and take a day trip to Cola Beach.
